How do you run a nut down a long threaded rod fast?

Why it matters
Hand-running a nut 900 mm down a rod is a hundred-odd turns of nothing useful. The drill does it in seconds and keeps the nut square while it travels, which hand-spinning doesn't always.
Cross-threading happens at the start and at the seat. In the middle, where all the turning is, there's nothing to get wrong. That's the part worth automating.
What good looks like
- The nut starts by hand for a couple of turns before the drill touches it
- It travels without wobbling or binding
- The last few turns and the final torque are done by hand
How to apply it
- Start the nut on the rod by hand, two turns, and confirm it's not cross-threaded.
- Attach the nut to the drill — zip-tie it to the chuck, or thread a matching bolt into the chuck and let the nut ride on it.
- Run the drill at low speed to spin the nut down the rod.
- Ease off well before the seat and finish by hand.
Exceptions & tradeoffs
Never run it into the seat under power. Torque spikes instantly, and you'll either gall the threads, snap something, or spin the whole rod.
Dry threads gall on steel-on-steel. A touch of oil on the rod costs nothing.
