User Agreement

LAST UPDATED · AUGUST 3, 2026
The short version: our tools give you a proven starting point — always cut a test piece before you trust a number. What you make stays yours. Paid plans start with a 14-day free trial, renew automatically, and can be cancelled any time; if you're unhappy in your first 30 days of paid access we refund you in full.

01This agreement

This User Agreement is a contract between you and Start Here Tooling Co. (“Start Here”, “we”, “us”). It covers starthere00.com, the signed-in app, our mobile app, and the files sold through the Scrap Bin.

By creating an account or using the tools, you accept it. If you don't agree, don't use the service. How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of this agreement.

You must be at least 16 years old to hold an account. If you are agreeing on behalf of a business, you confirm you are authorised to bind it.

02What Start Here is — and is not

Read this one. Our tools give you a proven starting point, not a guaranteed result. Every number they produce — a kerf allowance, a feed and speed, a bend deduction, a finger-joint width, a cut list — is a starting point that you must verify on your own machine, in your own material, before you cut, drill, print or machine anything. Cut a test piece first.

You are responsible for your own work and your own safety: for checking our output against your machine, tooling and stock; for following the safety instructions of your equipment; and for complying with any code, standard or regulation that applies to what you are making. Start Here is not an engineer of record and does not provide engineering, structural, safety or professional advice.

03Your account

Give us accurate details and keep them current. You are responsible for your password and for everything that happens under your account — tell us at zero@starthere00.com straight away if you think someone else has got in.

Accounts are for one person. Shop plans let an owner invite team members under one organisation; the owner is responsible for what their team does and for the billing on that organisation. Don't share one login between people.

04Plans, billing and cancellation

Plans

Hobby is free. Paid plans unlock the rest of the tools and are billed monthly or yearly in advance, at the price shown when you subscribe. We can change prices, but not mid-term — a change takes effect at your next renewal and we will email you first.

Free trial

Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. Your card is on file, so the subscription converts automatically when the trial ends — cancel any time before then and you are never charged. The trial is available on your first subscription only.

Renewal

Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period until you cancel. You authorise us to charge your payment method on each renewal.

Cancelling

Cancel any time from your account billing page. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for, then drop to Hobby. Your saved work stays where it is.

Refunds

If you are not happy in your first 30 days of paid access, email zero@starthere00.com and we will refund you in full — no hard feelings. After that, payments are non-refundable except where the law says otherwise.

Failed payments

If a payment fails we will retry and email you. If it stays unpaid, we may suspend paid features until it clears.

Taxes

Prices exclude tax unless stated. You are responsible for any sales, use or VAT that applies to you.

05The Scrap Bin (digital files)

Scrap Bin purchases are one-off digital products — DXF, SVG and STL cut files — delivered immediately after checkout.

Buying a file gives you a perpetual, non-exclusive licence to use it on your own machines, including for items you sell. You may not resell, redistribute or republish the file itself, or pass it off as your own design.

Because delivery is instant and irreversible, digital file sales are final. If a file is broken or not as described, tell us within 30 days and we will fix it or refund it.

06What you make stays yours

The measurements, projects, designs and notes you put into Start Here belong to you. We claim no ownership of them, and anything you cut, print or sell from them is yours.

You give us a limited licence to store, process and display that content for one purpose only: running the service for you — saving your work, rendering previews, generating exports, emailing you a cut list, and sharing it with the team members you invite. That licence ends when you delete the content or close your account.

You confirm you have the right to upload what you upload, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

07What stays ours

The site, the app, the tools, the calculators and the logic behind them, the Rules of Thumb library, our writing, our branding and our name are ours or our licensors'. Your subscription is a licence to use them, not a transfer of ownership. Don't copy, resell, scrape at scale, reverse-engineer or build a competing product out of them.

08Acceptable use

Don't:

  • Break the law, or help anyone else break it.
  • Try to reach data, accounts or systems that aren't yours, or probe our security without written permission.
  • Overload the service — automated scraping, bulk requests, or evading rate limits and usage caps.
  • Manipulate our AI-backed features into ignoring their instructions or revealing another user's data.
  • Resell or white-label the service without our written agreement.
  • Upload anything malicious, unlawful, or that infringes someone else's rights.

Fair use applies to features with per-account costs, like voice capture and emailed cut lists. We publish limits where they exist and will contact you before acting on unusual volume.

09AI-backed features

Voice measurement capture uses automated speech-to-text and an AI model to turn what you say into a number. It gets things wrong — accents, noise, ambiguous units. Always check a captured measurement before you cut to it. You can correct any value by hand, and a correction never overwrites the original silently.

10Availability and changes

We aim to keep Start Here up but don't promise uninterrupted service — maintenance, provider outages and bugs happen. We may add, change or retire features. If we retire something you rely on, or shut down the service, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to export your work.

11Ending this agreement

You can close your account at any time. We can suspend or close an account that breaches this agreement, doesn't pay, or puts the service or other users at risk — with notice where it is reasonable to give it, immediately where it is not.

On closure your access stops and your data is deleted on the schedule in our Privacy Policy. Export anything you want to keep first. If we close your account without cause, we refund the unused part of your term.

12Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent the law allows, Start Here is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind — express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that the tools' output is accurate, complete or suitable for your material, machine or project. Some jurisdictions don't allow these exclusions; where that is true, this section applies to you only as far as it is permitted.

13Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, nor for lost profits, lost time, lost data, or wasted, scrapped or ruined material — even if we were told such damage was possible.

Our total liability for any claim connected to Start Here is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$100.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

14Indemnity

You agree to cover our reasonable losses and legal costs arising from your misuse of the service, your breach of this agreement, or a claim that content you uploaded infringes someone's rights.

15Governing law and disputes

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes go to the courts there, unless consumer law in your country gives you the right to bring a claim locally — in which case it does.

Before filing anything, email zero@starthere00.com. Almost everything is faster to sort out that way.

16The rest

  • Changes. We may update this agreement. The date at the top changes, and for material changes we email account holders before they take effect. Using Start Here afterwards means you accept the new version; if you don't, cancel.
  • Whole agreement. This plus the Privacy Policy is the entire agreement between us about the service.
  • Severability. If a clause is unenforceable, the rest still stands.
  • No waiver. Not enforcing something once doesn't mean we have given it up.
  • Assignment. You can't transfer this agreement without our consent; we may transfer it as part of a merger or sale of the business.
