Frequently asked questions
- What is Start Here?
- A suite of web tools for makers: a laser cut box maker, a nut & bolt thread generator, the voice-powered Slutty Measurement Vault, and the Machine Setups Repository. One place for the tools a laser, CNC, or 3D-printing shop reaches for, with your numbers saved so the next job starts from what already worked.
- What features does the Bad Ass Box Maker have?
- It turns your dimensions into finger-jointed box panels with the joint math and kerf handled for you, then exports a laser-ready cut sheet as SVG or DXF. It also auto-sizes dividers, has a built-in Gridfinity mode that snaps to the 42mm grid, and remembers your material and saved designs so the next box is one click.
- Can I record my measurements with my voice and have them saved as text?
- Yes. Tap the mic, say the measurement, and it transcribes your voice into clean numbers stored in millimetres — hands-free, so you can measure from under a sink or up a ladder without putting the tape down. Voice capture is the Pro+ add-on — $20/mo on its own, or $15/mo if you're already on Pro. Typing measurements in is always free.
- Is there a free laser cutting design tool that prevents scrap waste and bad cuts?
- That's the whole point of this suite. Scrap comes from three things: joint math done by hand, a kerf you guessed at, and a measurement you remembered wrong. The Bad Ass Box Maker handles the joints and gives you a laser-ready cut sheet, the Machine Setups Repository stores the kerf and feeds that already cut clean, and the measurement vault keeps the numbers so you cut once. The box maker, saved measurements and the rules-of-thumb library are free on the Hobby plan.
- How long is the free trial?
- 14 days, on your first subscription — that covers any paid plan and the Pro+ voice add-on. Your card is on file so it converts automatically when the trial ends; cancel any time before then and you are never charged. It is one trial per customer, so cancelling and re-subscribing later does not start a second one.
- What is your refund policy?
- Your first subscription starts with a 14-day free trial, so you try it before you pay a cent. If you are not happy in your first 30 days of paid access, email us for a full refund — no hard feelings. Cancel anytime and you keep access through the end of your billing period.
- How much does Start Here cost?
- The plain Box Maker, saving your measurements, and the rules-of-thumb library are free on the Hobby plan. Pro is $5/mo or $50/yr and unlocks every tool, all export types, voice capture, and machine-calibration storage. Shop plans add per-seat team billing at $3 per seat per month.
