How do you stop an opened tube of caulk from drying out?
Half a tube of good silicone, one nail jammed in the nozzle, and a week later you've got a rubber cork and a bin job.

Why it matters
Silicone and most construction adhesives cure on contact with air or moisture. Nothing about that is a time limit — it's an exposure limit. Cut the air off and the tube keeps.
The wire nut's internal cone gives the leftover bead somewhere to sit while it skins, so what plugs up is the plug, not the nozzle.
What good looks like

- No air path down the side of the nozzle
- Next use: pull it off, a small skin comes with it, and the tube flows
How to apply it
- Wipe the nozzle clean before capping — dried sealant on the outside is what stops it sealing.
- Twist an appropriately sized wire nut on until it's snug.
- Store the tube nozzle-up.
- Next time, twist it off — the skin usually comes away inside the nut.
Exceptions & tradeoffs
Moisture-cure products still have a shelf life once opened, cap or no cap. This buys weeks, not a year.
Cartridges also cure back from the rear seal. If the tube's been open for months, expect a plug down inside regardless.
