Why it matters
Inner tube is a genuinely good material that costs nothing. It grips, it stretches a long way without tearing, it shrugs off most shop chemicals, and it's already the right thickness for a gasket.
When two things nearly fit, a stretched rubber band between them is often the entire fix.
What good looks like
- The band is stretched and under tension, gripping both parts

How to apply it
- Cut a band of inner tube — a ring, or a strip you can wrap.

This is a friction seal, not a rated fitting. No pressure, no heat, and nothing you'd be upset to have leak.
Butyl doesn't love petrol or some solvents long term. It'll swell and go soft.
