How do you lock two crossed rods together with one zip tie?
Loop a zip tie straight around an X joint, pull it tight, and the two parts still pivot. It's the single most common way people use a zip tie wrong.

Why it matters
A loop around a crossing constrains the parts toward each other but does nothing about rotation. The joint stays a hinge, and it will find that out the moment there's load on it.
The diagonal route pulls the two members against each other along the joint line instead of across it. That's what an actual lashing does — the zip tie is just doing it in one pass.
What good looks like
- The tie sits on the diagonal, not square around both members
- The joint doesn't pivot when you twist the two parts by hand
- Tail cut flush so it isn't a hazard
How to apply it
- Cross the two members and hold the angle you want.
- Start the tie on one member, cross it diagonally over the joint, and wrap so it catches both.
- Cinch tight — pull, don't jerk.
- Snip the tail flush.

Anything genuinely structural wants proper lashing or hardware. This is for light frames, trellis, jigs and fixtures.
One tie holds the angle in one direction. Two ties on opposing diagonals holds it properly.
